El Chapo 03:31
EL CHAPO (Smegal) This here’s a song for you my friend Down in the fields of Mexico You died there by el Chapo’s hand Over a seed you wouldn’t grow Yeah I swear to you You did not die in vain Yeah el Chapo I swear You’ll share their pain I can promise you the same This here’s a song for you my friend Out on patrol on the Rio Grande You died there in a gun battle Over the contents of a van Chorus This here’s a song for you my friend Down in the ghetto on the corner You died there in a drive-by Yeah they said you turned informer Yeah I swear to you You did not die in vain Yeah el Chapo I swear You’ll share their pain ‘Cause I’m the man Who put them in their graves El Chapo, I swear You’ll share their pain Boy, i promise you the same

ONE FOOT IN THE GRAVEYARD (Sailor/Mentzer) Wandering’ through the shadows Like a ghost who’s lost his way The sheriff’s on his trail now Looks like there’s hell to pay Looks like there’s hell to pay He’s got one foot in the graveyard Looks like there’s hell to pay She took his best friend’s hand now And in her bed they lay He nearly lost his mind then Upon his wedding day Upon his wedding day He’s got one foot in the graveyard Upon his wedding day The torture’s almost over With this horse between his knees A shot rings out and darkness falls He’s swinging’ in the breeze He’s swinging’ in the breeze He’ll soon be in the graveyard But now he’s swinging’ in the breeze

POOL HALL THIEVES (Smegal) I stand here upon this alter of neon With this three-piece choir and preach To an ex-con congregation of harlots, Hustlers, drunkards, and pool-hall thieves And a haze of Marlboro incense Hangs over the bar-stool pews And a lipstick stain-glass chandelier Shakes from my rust-belt blues Up here I’m in church, This guitar is my steeple You’re a raggedy-ass bunch But hell, you’re still my people If you ain’t got nothin’ Sometimes that nothin’ feels Like you have it all When you’re lyin’ in the gutter Down here in the gutter my friend You got nowhere left to fall And I quote the prophet’s ways Of Guthrie and Dylan And I try to recall the footsteps Of Jennings, Cash, and Williams Up here I’m in church, This guitar is my steeple You’re a raggedy-ass bunch But hell, you’re still my people I stand here upon this pulpit of neon With a three-piece choir and preach To an ex-con congregation of harlots, Hustlers, drunkards, and pool-hall thieves

Destiny 03:47
DESTINY (Smegal) Well I got me a letter just the other day From a girl I know down Florida way She stole my heart when she stole away I couldn’t believe what she had to say She said, “I’m sorry that I took so long to write I’m settled in now and doin’ just fine Times have been tough and money’s been tight But it ain’t worth havin’ if it ain’t worth a fight” And I think about you more than I should And that short time we had was mighty good What could have been between you and me And the front of her car said “destiny” I guess I’ll have to wait and see As long as I’ve known her she had a man And I had a girl, it was her best friend We both felt somethin’ we just couldn’t fight So before she left we had just one night Well her pretty little smile and her short brown hair Into her pretty brown eyes I couldn’t help but stare That little tramp stamp on the small of her back She fucked me so damned hard it nearly gave me a heart attack And I think about you more than I should And that short time we had was mighty good What could have been between you and me And the front of her car said “destiny” I guess I’ll have to wait and see Well I got up and wrote me a song today For a girl I know down Florida way She stole my heart when she stole away I hope she likes what I had to say

OSCAR’S ISLAND (Sailor/Mentzer) Hanging out on Water Street Looking for some pocket change But his case is lookin’ empty And the sky is getting strange Goin’ down to Oscar’s Island Gotta ring the bell Goin’ down to Oscar’s Island Gotta ring the bell State Street’s lookin’ bleary now But he ain’t goin’ anywhere Gotta get home to his corner yeah There’s tragic in the air Chorus Solo Rust grows on the clapper now The leaves are pilin’ up The Indian’s chewin’ Juicy Fruit And we can’t seem to get enough Chorus Chorus Outro

Down On You 05:13
DOWN ON YOU (Smegal) This old town here’s full of steel mills Most shut down long ago And they’re rusty old reminders Of better years before Work here’s hard to come by My factory’s been slow So I sell some pills just to pay my bills But I still don’t feel that what I’m doin’ is wrong My woman up and left me For a richer younger guy And I probably could have stopped her But I didn’t even try ‘Cause I didn’t really love her But a man still has his pride They disappeared, it’s goin’ on three years I have no fear, just my alibi Well a man’s got to do What a man has got to do I stand by my actions And decisions that I choose A man’s got to do What a man has got to do You can bet your ass if you cross my path I’ll bring this whole damned world Down on you Now I’m a few years older And none the wiser, just the same I’ve sinned a hundred times over And still I feel no shame But I ain’t prayin’ for forgiveness I stole these boots I’m in You can make your bet I’ll have no regret When my maker says my time’s at hand
